Moldovan official wants to mull gas debt with Gazprom CEO on Wed

CHISINAU, Nov 24 (PRIME) -- Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Infrastructure Minister Andrei Spinu wants to meet with Russian gas giant Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller on Wednesday to discuss the country’s gas debt, Spinu said in an interview to Republika TV broadcast late on Tuesday.

“On Monday, I discussed the situation with mister Miller, he did not warn me about the 48 hours,” he said.

“We discussed the situation at a meeting of the supervisory board, and a decision was made that Moldovagaz has to make all efforts it can. I hope to talk again to the Gazprom CEO tomorrow in order to explain the government’s actions to him.”

On Monday, Gazprom’s official representative Sergei Kupriyanov said that the company had notified Moldova that it could suspend supplies in 48 hours unless the bill due on Monday is paid because a recent contract envisages 100% payment for the current bills. Moldovagaz CEO Vadim Ceban said that the company asked the government for a $74 million loan to pay the debt.
